Topeka police have identified the city’s 16th homicide victim of 2024.
Officials on Friday morning said Peter J. Blancas, 58, of Topeka, was found dead on Wednesday morning at a home in the 500 block of N.E. Gordon Street in the Little Russia neighborhood on the city’s north side.
The homicide was reported around 9:15 a.m. Wednesday after Topeka Fire Department crews responded to what initially was listed as a “medical call” at a residence in the 500 block of N.E. Gordon Street.

The Topeka Police Department is now investigating this incident as a homicide. The victim has been identified as Malik J. Keith, 26, of Topeka. This is Topeka’s 12th homicide of 2024.
According to a press release from TPD, on Sunday, Aug. 18, just after 4:00 a.m., officers responded to the 3100 block of Southeast Fremont on a report of gunshots.
Upon arrival, officers found an adult male suffering from life-threatening injuries. The victim was transported by ambulance to a local hospital.

A Topeka man was identified in the NW U.S. 24 Highway homicide in Topeka, Kan.
According to the Topeka Police Department, the deceased has been identified as Charles Balocca, 61, of Topeka.
Topeka Police Department released that around 11 a.m. on Friday, May, 24, officers were notified of a person suffering from a gunshot wound in the 100 block of NW U.S. 24 Highway.

2023- 88115 Homicide - Praylow
October 20, 2023
35-year-old Trevon Praylow has been identified as the victim in a shooting that happened around 12:30 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 20.
Topeka Police responded to a shooting in the 1605 SW Fillmore St.
Upon arrival, they located two adults suffering from gunshot wounds, one was pronounced dead at the scene and the other was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

October 13, 2023
One person has now died after being dropped off at Stormont Vail Hospital with a life-threatening gunshot wound.
The person was dropped off at 1:29 a.m., and medical personnel at the hospital pronounced them deceased. TPD has identified the victim as 17-year-old Damayah R. Calhoun, of Topeka.
TPD Watch Commander says its investigation has led them to a possible crime scene in the 600 block of SE Lawrence St. The scene was blocked off with crime scene tape and evidence markers in the front yard of a home in the area.

On July 14, 2020 shortly after 1:45 a.m., officers with the Topeka Police Department were dispatched to the 500 block of SW 5th St. on a report of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers located two deceased victims inside a residence with apparent gunshot wounds. The victims were later identified as Crystal D. Andrews, 37 of Topeka and Mercedes M. Holford, 13 of Topeka.
Topeka Police later released pictures of a person of interest in the homicide. Police are still seeking information about the person of interest and have released an additional video clip.
